Kentucky Nick Name
The Bluegrass State
The nickname for Kentucky is "The Bluegrass State".

Kentucky got this nickname because bluegrass is found in many of the lawns and pastures throughout the state (particularly in the northern part of Kentucky - including the metropolitan areas of Lexington and Louisville).

Bluegrass is not really blue. It's green. In the spring, however, when seen from a distance, the blue-purple buds of Bluegrass lend a bluish tint to the landscape.
